Bobby Moffett, Jr.

For more than 15 years, the self-taught keyboardist, Bobby Moffett Jr., aka BobbyBlackKeyz has been entertaining audiences. Bobby is a Tulsa based keyboardist whose melodic and skillful sound reflects years of dedication, hard work, and collaboration with a multitude of talented artists. Bobby has not only maintained a steady working relationship with local artists, but his resume also boasts a plethora of national artists as well. The latest effort by Bobby showcases original renditions in the movie production of Finding Carlos, a thrilling hip-hop remake of the nutcracker, now playing nationally. He continues to write and produce original musical works of art.

A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, but raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bobby began his musical career singing and playing the drums for his youth choir. His innate love of music led him to discover his passion for playing the keyboard in 1995, and he has been playing ever since. Musically influenced by artists such as record producer and rapper, J Dilla of Slum Village; Detroit based soul singer, Dwele; and singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer, D’Angelo, Bobby’s love for music intensified and aided in the development of his musical DNA.

Even during his early years as an artist, Bobby’s keyboarding artistry was always well received and allowed him opportunities to play for major artists including Kenny Lattimore, Le’Andria Johnson, and Syleena Johnson, among others. Additionally, his collaborative works have allowed him to play on stages that set the mood for audiences to watch renown artists like Zap, Sheila E, Music Soulchild, Corinne Bailey Rae, and many others.

With an undeniable passion for music and an insatiable love for playing the keyboard, Bobby plays to packed crowds at events such as Tulsa’s Juneteenth Music Festival, the Tulsa Overground Festival, and Funk Fest; as well as intimate venues in his hometown like DW Speakeasy, Retro Grill and Bar, and Sax Martini Lounge to name a few. There are those who create music for fun, there are also those who create music because they need to, but BobbyBlackKeyz manages to expressively navigate beyond the constraints of simple sound to invite his audiences to unique and creative music that is therapeutic to their souls.
